Singing Spirit In Sky?

Yet another generation of music lovers has been introduced to an “oldie but goodie.” Gatorade’s newest sports drink, Tiger, named for golfing great Tiger Woods, is promoted via a “Moonshot” video which depicts the world’s greatest golfer (in a space suit) lacing a drive off the surface of the moon to the tune of the late 60’s classic (released in 1969) “Spirit In The Sky.”

“Spirit In The Sky” is the song that puts folk-rocker Norman Greenbaum in the “one-hit-wonder” category of popular music (it peaked in March of 1970 at #3). It has endured despite Greenbaum’s short and uneven career in record-making. (Greenbaum was known for unusual songs with odd titles such as “Canned Ham.” But hey, this was THE 70s!)

Although “Spirit In The Sky” is not considered a gospel song in the traditional sense, clearly the subject is going to the great beyond…if you “have a friend in Jesus.” A strikingly traditional religious sentiment for the period.

“Spirit In The Sky” was prominently featured in the 1995 Ron Howard directed blockbuster Apollo 13 starring Tom Hanks. It was also notably recorded by alt-country rockers The Kentucky Headhunters and, more recently, by British pop singer Gareth Gates.

Spirit In The Sky Lyrics

(Words and Music by Norman Greenbaum)

When I die and they lay me to rest

Gonna go to the place that’s the best

When I lay me down to die

Goin’ up to the spirit in the sky

Goin’ up to the spirit in the sky

That’s where I’m gonna go when I die

When I die and they lay me to rest

Gonna go to the place that’s the best

Prepare yourself you know it’s a must

Gotta have a friend in Jesus

So you know that when you die

He’s gonna recommend you

To the spirit in the sky

Gonna recommend you

To the spirit in the sky

That’s where you’re gonna go when you die

When you die and they lay you to rest

You’re gonna go to the place that’s the best

Never been a sinner I never sinned

I got a friend in Jesus

So you know that when I die

He’s gonna set me up with

The spirit in the sky

Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky

That’s where I’m gonna go when I die

When I die and they lay me to rest

I’m gonna go to the place that’s the best

Go to the place that’s the Best

Mercury 2013 series of check marks.

The following information includes personal speculation on my part, filling in the gaps on what the Ford Motor Company has already mentioned about its Mercury brand.

When it comes to automotive brands, a number of them are “damaged” having been neglected for many years. General Motors, has several including Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer while the Ford Motor Company has Mercury, a line of vehicles its sells alongside its Lincoln line. As recently as 2007, Ford appeared prepared to consider dropping Mercury but reconsidered that move at the insistence of its current CEO, Alan Mulally. Mulally has insisted that Ford keep Mercury going, changing the brand into a small car retailer which will take Mercury in a fresh direction.

To that end, we offer the following thoughts on how Mercury will look by 2013:

Good-Bye Large Vehicles – Mercury still sells several larger vehicles but that will soon change as the brand transitions to a small car brand. The aged Grand Marquis, capable Mountaineer and stylish Sable will all go away. The Sable will end production in 2009, the Mountaineer in 2010 and the Grand Marquis by 2011.

Milan Flagship – The largest vehicle in the Mercury fleet will be the Milan which itself is a twin to the Ford Fusion. Mercury will keep the sedan as both it and the Milan Hybrid offer a cheaper alternative to Lincoln’s smallest sedan, the MKZ.

Mariner Marches On – The Mariner and Mariner Hybrid’s place in the Mercury fleet is unknown, but could face the ax if Ford decides to concentrate on the Escape only. The Escape and Mariner are twins, but the Mercury model will become vulnerable if sales slip. I expect that the Mariner will survive.

Return of the Capri – Back in the 1970s and 1980s, a small coupe by the name of the “Capri” was sold by Mercury. At times it was the only truly unique car to the brand while at other times it was the Mercury twin to the Ford Mustang. Look for Ford to utilize the next generation Focus or Fiesta platform to design a car that is exclusive to Mercury.

Intro of a City CarFord says that as many as six of its European designed models will be sold in North America, but hasn’t outlined each one. The Transit Connect, Fiesta and Focus are definite bets with the C-Max and Kuga suggested as two others. One model that hasn’t been mentioned but could be just right for Mercury is the Ford Ka, a city car that seats four and is about the size of the Smart Fortwo.

All Electric ModelFord has said that an electric car will be offered by 2012, but hasn’t mentioned what that vehicle might be. Speculation is that it’ll be an electrified Fusion while others have said that it  might be an all new model sharing the Focus’ platform. No matter, if Ford dealers get the car then Mercury will see its own version too.

When all is said and done, Mercury may have as few as three model lines to sell but more likely will have as many as five. Together with Lincoln, the most exciting car dealerships in the country could be Lincoln-Mercury dealers who will have a good mix of luxury, premium, standard and entry level models for customers to consider.

Ford Mustang in the UK

So, you are looking to purchase a new car, maybe a new mercedes C-Class, maybe a BMW 323?

These cars after-all come with a ‘huge’ 2.something litre engine which will whine its way up to 60 in probably around 9 seconds.

They will make people know that you are (a) successful (sales rep), and that you have chosen a quality car that. However, I feel that they have as much excitement and originality as a potato.

Why not spend the same money on a new Ford Mustang?

Its not as crazy an idea as you may think; the GT comes with a 4.6 V8 which accelerates from 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, can hit a speed limit well in excess of the law, and houses 300 horses under the bonnet.

It doesn’t even guzzle that much fuel and can manage 25mpg.

But fuel economy is not the reason for buying one of these machines – a Mustang says something about you.

Pulling on to the motorway in your new 323i is a non-event. Nobody notices you (apart from the 325i driver wanting to show off his ‘huge’ engine power). Pull onto the motorway in your new ‘Stang and its a whole different story – kids and grown-ups will point and stare!

Convertible GT’s can be delivered on the road for around £30,000 and the V6’s start at around £21,000.

There really is no excuse for owning any other vehicle!

And with bodykits and Alloys from companies such as Roush and Saleen costing less than a set of wheels for your BMW you can not Loss

The American public has always loved its music and its cars, and they even love those cars of people who created the music they love. The Henry Ford Museum will cater to the whim of the public who have been longing for those famous vehicles which famous stars used in the past.

The exhibit dubbed as the Rock Stars’ Cars and Guitars will take place in June 9 of this year at the Henry Ford Museum located in Dearborn, Michigan. The exhibit will showcase eighteen cars which are as legendary as the people who once drove them. The soul of rock and roll will be bared to the public with the unveiling of the cars which includes the rides of Elvis Presley and John Lennon among others.

Aside from cars, the exhibit will also feature a wide variety of guitars that were once used by rock and roll superstars.

The exhibit will showcase cars, guitars, and motorcycles on loan from other museums and private individuals. The Petersen Automotive Museum, the Hard Rock Café, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum Inc. are the natural homes of the cars and guitars to be shown at the exhibit on the ninth of June. Christian Overland, the Vice President of Museums and Collections for The Henry Ford Museum, has this to say about the exhibit: “Rock & roll and custom-car culture are important expressions of American freedom and individualism. This exhibition presents an opportunity to see some of the iconic cars of rock & roll and understand the artistic expressions of the stars.”

Among the eighteen cars to be showcased at the event is the 1965 Rolls Royce Phantom V owned by the immortal Beatles member John Lennon. True to the age where Lennon grew up, the car is pained in a psychedelic floral motif. This will surely have people silently singing “Imagine”.

Another legendary car which will make an appearance at the exhibit is the 1949 Cadillac custom designed by blues rock band ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons. The car is dubbed as the “CadZZilla” and is one of the most recognized hot rods in the rock world.

Another legendary car that will be showcased at the aforementioned event is the 1971 De Tomaso Pantera formerly owned by Elvis Presley. The popularity of the car is attributed to a bullet hole shot into the car by the King himself.

Another vehicle that will make an appearance at the event is the 1932 Ford Coupe “Silver Sapphire” which became famous when it appeared on the cover of another rock and roll icon – the Beach Boys’ album. The Silver Sapphire was featured in the cover of the “Little Deuce Coupe” album of the popular rock and roll band.

Another 1932 vehicle from Ford also made it to the exhibit. The Ford model in question is the 1932 Ford Hi-Boy Phaeton hot rod. The hot rod became popular when it was used by hard rock band Van Halen on the music video for their song “Hot for Teacher”. At the end of the music video, Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth smoked the tires of the car as he sped away from the school.

These vehicles have become a part of the auto industry in the fact that they have generated interest on cars during their tenure as the ride of the rich and famous. All these cars have been known for their performance and the use of aftermarket parts, although it is highly improbable that a Nissan cold air intake system was used on any of those cars.

Prepare youth for the road

I understand how dangerous the roads can be particularly if your car is prone to breaking down at inopportune times. At some point every driver is left stranded on the side of the road. Whether it be a flat tire or an overheated engine a broken car can lead to a very dangerous situation when stuck in an intersection or on the side of a busy highway with limited visibility. These types of inopportune circumstances have been known to lead to fatal car accidents for adult drivers and can be even more dangerous for a young driver without the experience or ability to handle the situation. No matter what the car problem there are steps you can take as a parent to help your child be prepared for life’s sticky situations.

Through education and a little forethought you can help your teen be prepared for the roads often unpredictable behavior. In order to help prevent panic familiarize your teen with all common aspects of car maintenance and repair and have them put their skills to practice. If a teen has already changed a tire, or checked and refilled their engine oil they will have little difficulty doing it when the road demands it.

What to Teach: Reviewing common car problems and their symptoms will help your child become more familiar with their vehicle and notice its changes. These symptoms and common problems should be written down and kept in the cars glove box for reference.

· Dealing with a Flat Tire

Being new to the road and with little driving experience teens may not know that they have a flat tire. Through experience a driver can tell that the car makes unusual noises and behaves erratically when it has a flat tire. Simply telling your teen how a car responds to a flat tire will make them more alert and can save you the hassle of rim and tire replacement.

Along with recognizing a flat tire a driver must also know how to remove the flat and replace it with the spare tire. Showing your teen all of the tools for replacing the tire and making them practice this a few times will improve their safety and help ensure that you will not have to come to the rescue on a Friday night to change a tire.

· Monitoring and Maintaining Tire Pressure

There are common symptoms of low tire pressure that even adults fail to recognize such as the vehicle pulling to one side. Having an unbalanced car can be extremely dangerous particularly in adverse weather conditions.

An easy solution: equip your teen with a tire gauge as well as either a bottle of fix-a-flat or a portable compressor and teach them how to use these. Also be sure to write down the proper PCI for their car in your notebook top keep in the car.

· Checking and filing oil:

Maintaining the engine oil can be hectic depending on the vehicles condition and age. Some older vehicles burn through oil at an extraordinary rate making it extremely important to not only monitor the oil on a regular bases, but also to be prepared by keeping a bottle of engine oil in the car. But even if your teen is driving a newer car it is important for them to know where the dipstick is located and how to check and maintain the engine oil as it is the blood of the car and imperative to the car functioning properly.

· Maintaining washer fluid

Windshield wiper fluid is important to maintaining proper visibility particularly in the summer when bugs make a mess of a cars windows.

· Jump Starting a Car:

Everyone makes the mistake of draining their battery by leaving their lights on- for this reason your car should be equipped with jumper cables and your teen should be instructed on their use.

· Filing water:

Without water an engine is bound to overheat- particularly if your teen is driving an older vehicle make sure they are aware of this and prepared with extra water in the trunk.

· Common Symptoms and Problems

Engine overheating: Heater will only blow cold air Engine temperature gauge moving beyond mid point Steam or smoke billowing from engine

Empty engine oil: Engine oil is the blood of a vehicle- it keeps all parts in the engine lubricated so they may function- without it the engine parts will create too much friction and cease to work. Because there are no pre-cursing symptoms it is important to maintain the oil regularly.

Flat tire: Rough ride- feels clunky and off balance Car pulls to one side Can hear a clunk

Low tire: Car pulling toward one side Difficulty keeping the vehicle straight on the road

Failing breaks: Breaks will squeak an extreme amount Feel like you are pushing very hard on the breaks and hardly stopping

Safety Tips: Car problems are very dangerous especially on busy roads or during times of poor visibility (night time, rain or snow). Here are some tips to help keep your teen safe while fixing the car or waiting for help.

· Remove the car as far from the road as possible · Use emergency flares and blinkers to warn other drivers · Place flares on non-flammable surfaces- not grassy areas that may catch fire · Be cautious of those trying to help you- don’t get in a strangers car · Call for help

Preparation:

· Accident Kit- An accident kit should be prepared ahead of time and kept in the glove box of the car. This will make it easier for your teen to remember what is necessary in case of an accident as it is easy to forget important steps when in stressful situations.

Camera

-To take pictures of the damage

Personal info sheet

-Prepare pre-done sheets with your name, phone number, address and insurance information

Paper pad and pen

-In the tablet have a written sheet with the information that your teen must collect in a collision…

Name, address, phone number Vehicle make, model and color License plate number Insurance information

Emergency Kit- an emergency kit should be kept in the vehicle at all times this kit should include:

Jumper cables

Roadside flares

Two quarts of oil

Antifreeze

First aid kit

Flashlight and extra batteries

Flat head screwdrivers

Phillips head screwdrivers

Pliers

Adjustable wrench

Tire inflator (such as a Fix-A-Flat)

Tire pressure gauge

Rags

Duct tape

Washer Fluid

Pocketknife

Ice scraper

Granola or energy bars

Bottled water

Fireworks – Art in the sky.

A fireworks show is an excellent opportunity to appreciate pyrotechnics in all their glory. Fireworks come in a huge variety of shapes, colours, and designs, and can be used both by individuals and by professionals to create beautiful displays. There are public shows for holidays and events, as well as private shows that anyone can do. Here, we’ll take a look at some of the different types of fireworks that are used, as well as how you can put on your own fireworks display at home.

Commercial fireworks are generally only used by professionals, and in most cases it is not legal (or financially feasible) for an individual to purchase them. There are several different grades of fireworks for most countries, and there are regulations to keep just anyone from owning and firing pyrotechnics that are powerful enough. However, there are plenty of fireworks that are legal almost everywhere, and these can be used to create a fireworks show in your own back yard. For example, roman candles, firecrackers, bottle rockets, and other smaller types of fireworks are available for anyone to purchase, and can be combined to create a modest show. They can be used to celebrate holidays or special occasions, or just for fun.

Commercial grade fireworks are also produced by companies to create a larger fireworks show, typically during public celebrations and holidays. These fall into a number of different styles. For example, most shells will produce a spherical scattering of stars (the points of light you see) either with or without tails trailing after them. They can go straight out or droop and fall creating an effect similar to a weeping willow. Some do not ignite until they are about to fall, creating an effect similar to a waterfall. There are also fireworks that are designed to split into smaller stars after detonating, creating a crossing pattern, or to spit out sparks as they rise and split. The number of different types of fireworks is staggering, as they are used all over the world for many types of celebrations.

Depending on the particular laws in your area, a good fireworks show may or may not be easy to do on your own. Knowing the regulations and following them is always a good idea, but if you are legally allowed to perform with fireworks then they can certainly be a lot of fun and beautiful to see.

Hydrogen cars from Ford.

On July 10, Ford released a press statement that discussed their progress and the future of hydrogen vehicles. Is their release credible or just a smoke and mirrors tactic to get people excited about the company?

Ford rolled out a 12-passenger parking lot shuttle bus, which is powered by a 6.8-liter internal combustion hydrogen engine.

Ford is quick to point out that the engine isn’t ready for general consumer usage just yet. According to the release, it will take five years–or longer–before Ford can legitimately entertain the idea of putting hydrogen cars in the marketplace.

While this might be a step in the right direction, hydrogen vehicles powered by fuel cells won’t be seen until at least 2015, said Scott Staley, chief engineer of Ford’s hydrogen and fuel cell technology department.

So, the question remains. Is this really an environmental-friendly development or just another press release of a troubled company?

Every major auto manufacturer is testing gas alternatives. Toyota and Honda are further along than Ford. Both companies have hydrogen-powered cars. Toyota has a hydrogen version of the Prius.

How about the bottom line?

According to the release, these new hydrogen-powered buses cost $250,000, which is $180,000 more than Ford’s typical gas-powered bus. These costs are expected to drop if mass production were engaged.

The vehicles have a max range of 150-200 miles, which is fine for parking lot shuttles, and they’re only showing to be up to 13% more fuel-efficient.

On the bright side, these hydrogen vehicles have fewer emissions.

When you look at the technological spectrum, Ford is dragging its feet and that’s one reason why I don’t like the stock. If you’re looking to invest in a “best of breed” company, Ford isn’t the stock play.

New Ford V6 engine running.

The Ford Motor Company has invested a huge amount on a new engine that they would be using in some of their future vehicles. Production for the new engine has already started and it is ongoing in only one of the company’s many production plants.

The Ford plant in Lima, Ohio has been the chosen one. And a few weeks ago, the production has already started. So it seems that at present a huge set of V6 engines are about to be made available sometime in the near future. This new V6 engine could hold in 3.5 liters of fuel. It has also been created so as to be able to produce some 265 units of horsepower. According to some officials from Ford, the new V6 engine has been designed to be flexible. In fact, they are foreseeing that the company could use this engine in various Ford vehicles. If this is so, then it would be like the parts Ford Windstar which could be used in quite a number of Ford cars and vehicles.

$335 million is a huge amount. And this is the exact amount that the Ford Motor Company invested and spent so that the Lima plant would be able to produce the new and flexible V6 engine. The plans for production for this new one are great. According to the plant’s manager, Jan Allman, the number of engines to be produced would be gradually increasing through time and they would also be adding more workers coming this October so as to be able to produce the amount of engines needed by the auto Manufacturer

Dave Szczupak continued: "It is extremely flexible in the future is to create products from the engine. . Vice president Ford Szczupak made in America.

Insurance.

Finding the perfect car insurance is a matter of shopping around, asking friends and making sure to qualify for every discount available. It is also important to make sure to get the right kind of car insurance.

People who have just purchased a new car or have a car that is not paid for need to opt for an insurance policy rider which covers the replacement costs of the car or pays the car off in full in the event that the car is totaled, this is called GAP insurance.

Most car insurance policies pay the amount the car is worth on the day that it is damaged, the car’s Actual Cash Value or ACV, not necessarily the amount that is still owed on it. Many car financiers will offer this type of rider as part of the financing option, but car owners should also determine before signing the financing offer if they can get the same service from their standard insurance company. Generally speaking, going through your regular insurance agency will mean that it costs less.

Persons purchasing car insurance for the first time will also need to determine what type of insurance they need. For a car that is financed, full coverage insurance will be needed. This type of car insurance will pay the amount the car is worth, minus the deductible, after the car had been damaged, no matter who is at fault for the damage.

Liability insurance is the insurance required by most state’s to legally operate any motor vehicle. This type of car insurance pays for damage to the other person’s car or property that is your fault. It does not cover damage to your own vehicle.

The other important things to consider when discussing car insurance are liability limits and deductibles. For liability insurance, most states have a minimum amount that is required, usually $25,000 or $50,000. Many people decided that this is the amount of insurance that they should have.

The problem with this approach to car insurance is that the liability amount is the maximum amount your insurance company will pay if an accident occurs. If there are more damages than that amount and the accident was your fault, the other people involved in the accident can sue you for the difference.

That means that if they suffered $75,000 in damages between their car, medical bills and other expenses and you only have $25,000 in liability, you could have to pay the other $50,000. And, since almost no new vehicles cost less than $25,000, the chances are pretty good that in a severe accident, the damages could far exceed minimal liability limits.

One way to afford higher car insurance liability limits is to increase your deductible. Most people have their deductible set considerably lower than it needs to be. This is based on the fact that most of the time, you will not have to pay a deductible unless you are at fault in an accident and there is damage to your own car.

So, choosing to go with a deductible of $1,000 instead of $500 could be difficult to deal with if you are at fault in an accident, but it would be a lot easier to afford than the $50,000 you could face if your liability limits are too low. Often, doubling the amount of you deductible will allow you to keep your car insurance premium the same while increasing your coverage.

Once you have determined what your car insurance needs will be, it is important to ask around to find the right company and agent for you. Price should be a consideration, but you should also check into their reputation for handling claims promptly. Some insurance companies also offer discounts for multi-policies held by the same person, so consider having your home or life insurance through the same company as your car insurance.
